Colleagues reviewing work together

Company

Understand first. Then build.

Most failed projects were not badly engineered. They were badly understood — scoped from a brief nobody tested against how the work actually happens.

How we work

Four steps, every engagement.

  1. Understand

We watch the process as it runs, including the workarounds people have quietly built. Nothing is quoted before this is done.

  2. Scope

Architecture, data model and interface written down and costed, with the trade-offs stated plainly — including the option of doing nothing.

  3. Build

Short cycles that end in software you can use, so direction can change while changing it is still cheap.

  4. Stay

Monitoring, support and steady improvement. Launch is the middle of the work, not the end.

What this means in practice

Three habits that decide the outcome.

Before the quote

We spend real time on the specification.

The specification is the cheapest place to change your mind. An hour there routinely saves a week later, and it is the part most suppliers skip because it is unbillable and slow.

  • The process documented as it happens, not as the manual describes it
  • Constraints and existing systems mapped before any design
  • A written scope you can hold us to
Start with a conversation

During the build

Working software, not status reports.

Every cycle ends with something you can open and use. A progress percentage tells you nothing; a running screen tells you whether we understood you.

  • Short cycles with a reviewable result each time
  • Direction can change early, while it is still cheap
  • Tests written alongside the code, not bolted on at the end

After launch

You are never locked in by ignorance.

Documentation and handover are standard, not an extra. If you decide to take the system elsewhere, you should be able to — being kept by inertia is not a business we want to be in.

  • Documented architecture, deployment and decisions
  • Knowledge transfer to your own people
  • Your data exportable in a format you can use

The difference

Why projects go wrong, and what we do instead.

How it usually goes

  • A price before anyone has watched the work being done.
  • Scope discovered halfway through, at the worst possible moment to change it.
  • A system only its original supplier can safely touch.

How we run it

  • A fortnight of understanding before a number is quoted.
  • Short cycles, so surprises arrive while they are still cheap.
  • Documentation and handover as standard, so you could leave.
